How FPL price changes work (and the selling-price catch)
Why Fantasy Premier League player prices rise and fall, how much you actually get back when you sell, and how to use transfer trends to plan.
FPL player prices aren't fixed. They move during the season, and how you time your transfers can add or cost you money in your team value.
Why prices change
According to the official FPL rules, player prices change during the season depending on their popularity in the transfer market. When many managers buy a player, their price tends to rise; when many sell, it tends to fall. FPL doesn't publish the exact formula, so nobody can predict changes with certainty.
The selling-price catch
When you sell a player whose price has gone up since you bought him, you don't get the full rise. The official rules say you receive 50% of the price rise, rounded down to the nearest £0.1m.
| Bought at | Current price | Rise | You get when selling |
|---|---|---|---|
| £7.0m | £7.1m | £0.1m | £7.0m (half of £0.1m rounds down to £0.0m) |
| £7.0m | £7.2m | £0.2m | £7.1m |
| £7.0m | £7.5m | £0.5m | £7.2m |
If a player's price has fallen, you sell at the lower current price.
How to use transfer trends
- Our Gameweek Hub lists the most transferred-in and transferred-out players this gameweek, straight from the official data.
- A player heading up the "in" list is more likely to rise soon. If you were going to buy him anyway, buying earlier can save £0.1m.
- Don't chase price rises for their own sake. Points matter more than team value.
